Crooked Waiters

Crooked Waiters is an image created in Venice several years ago and it was not choreographed, not staged, it's real. The waiter whispering to the head waiter had just given us a bill for a seating charge after we had consumed a lovely bottle of wine at a local cafe in Venice. The seating charge was a scam for tourists and I had refused to pay. The conference was being had about us as I took a short series of images. When I was spotted taking the shots and showed them to the Crooked Team, they laughed and said nessuna carica, No Charge. Our seating fee was removed and were  treated as locals from that point on.

This image is one of my best selling art pieces and I love to tell the story.

  1. OMG. I recognize these guys! I was with my three sisters in Italy a few years ago and we spent a day in Venice. One sister had started a photo series lovingly called “The men of Italy” — bartenders, waiters, street vendors. It was the off-season, and these guys let my sister sit and sip tea for two hours for a pittance…so they apparently do a have little bit of a heart. And bearded guy? He’s featured on our family’s home-created calendar…Mr. October.
